Where a place description names a date, a builder or a figure, it was written from the page that place's entry cites, and that page is recorded beside it. Some of those pages are Wikipedia articles, whose text is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0; the descriptions are written in our own words from the facts on the page, never copied from it.

When you look up a place by name to add it as your own spot, the candidates come from our own place data, from Wikidata (CC0 1.0 — public domain dedication) and from OpenStreetMap through Nominatim — that data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
